If you’ve been around for more than a hot minute, you know that I spend a lot of time talking about aligning your work with your values. That’s because the first part of my entire business development methodology is Defining Your Values. When you know WHY you show up the way you do, WHY you do the work, what you truly believe in, then you start creating a business foundation that is unwavering. A business foundation from which you can grow.

There’s a lot of talk out there about ethical marketing and values-based businesses, but what does that even mean?

If your business is not aligned with your values, you’re setting yourself up for problems.

Examples:

⭐️ If you have a strong value of integrity and you take on clients you don’t respect, you’ll end up feeling resentful.
⭐️ If you have a strong values of equity and inclusion but avoid potentially problematic situations inside your membership or community group, your clients may feel your space is no longer safe for them and pull away.
⭐️ If you have a strong value of play but you don’t allow your own creativity room to soar, then you’ll end up feeling stifled and your business will respond accordingly.

Your values – what you believe in – are at the very core of everything you do. Knowing these, defining them, and establishing parameters, systems, and services around them is one of the very best things you can do for your business.

Once you have a strong sense of your values, then you have rationale for everything else.

Rationale = understanding = confidence.

You know why your systems are set up the way they are. You know why you offer the services you do. You know why these are important. And when you break your own rules – and believe me, you will – then you’ll also know that you’re doing so and how to come back.

So when I talk about values, I’m not just talking about a sentence that says, “I believe in ____”. I’m talking about laying a strong foundation for growth based in who you are, where you want to go, and how you want to get there.

Here’s to you and your success.
